20 Volunteers from Singapore

March 6, 2010 - PA was swarmed with the coming of 20 energetic youths from Singapore. They are students of Temasek Polytechnic who are under their Outreach Community Program chose PA to do some voluntary work in Indonesia. Martina Natratilova, PA's International Liason Officer, welcomed the group and introduced them to PA and the group's activities. The students spent 5 days in PA working on mural paintings, enrichment programs, and some fun activites with our children.

On the following day, the Temasek Group, led by Lim Wee How and Tan Hwee Hoon, and 20 PA children participated in some fun outbound activities specially designed to strengthen the friendship between the volunteers and children and also to explore the beauty of Lombok. The collaborated team consisted of PA children and the volunteers worked together to finish some tasks before they were treated with lunch by a beautiful river.

During the day, the volunteers, organized by their team leader Shermaine, engaged in several programs. In the morning, they assisted us in our homeschooling classes including giving swimming lesson. They also split their groups to paint the some parts of the surrounding wall of PA with attractive designs.

In the afternoon, the volunteers whose ages range from 19 to 30 assisted our teachers in several vocational classes such as art, music, sewing, English, and computer. And after that, everybody gathered to cheer for PA football team in the YPA Cup 2010 which the volunteers also sponsored.

The volunteers ended their program ended their program on March 11th. We arranged a small farewell party for them and all PA kids and staff. They all sang and danced together. The volunteers distributed school bags, stationery, and other tidbits to our children. The Chairman of PA, Khalid, gave a miniature of a traditional granary and PA shirts for all the group members.

All in all the children and staff of PA were very happy to be the host for these wonderful volunteers from the neighboring country. Children have broadened their horizon about the diversity of people and culture in the world. We hope that the Temasek students will come again next year with more exciting projects and please share your wonderful experience in Lombok with your friends, family, and colleagues.
