The Power of Cooking
June 14, 2010 - Liander, an energy distribution company in the Netherlands, has just started a delicious fundraising for Peduli Anak. Yes, it is delicious indeed because Michael de Jong, winner of the company award for most original idea as a social responsibility entrepreneur, is working on a cooking project for Liander's CSR program and it's dedicated to Peduli Anak. Michael, a Malaysian born, and his Moluccan colleagues know very well how to prepare Indonesian dishes. They cooked Indonesian meals and sold them at 5 euro per meal package to employees of the company. The package included Indonesian's popular food such as fried rice/noodle and chicken satay.
Their goal is to sell as many meal packages as possible and send all proceeds to Peduli Anak. Their contribution will help Peduli Anak to buy a generator to provide electricity for the foundation's daily routines. For your information, Lombok island is facing electricity scarcity at the moment. The result is rotating blackouts throughout the island. In the foundation alone, everyday we have several blackouts which usually last for hours during day and night. This situation often hinders our daily activities: classes which require electricity power such as music and automotive classes have to postpone or even cancel their meetings, office work sometimes is neglected, and many other inconveniences for our staff and children.
We wish Michael and colleagues huge success with the cooking project. Of course you are all welcome to visit Peduli Anak and perhaps enjoy some real Indonesian-Lombok cuisine with our children.
